By the end of 2025, American will have over 1,000 aircrafts of all types, including Airbus narrowbodies on domestic routes and Boeing widebodies on long-distance international routes: the largest mainline fleet in the world. The average age of the fleet is about 14 that focuses on efficiency and the upper-end cabins.

For Domestic Flights

American Airlines will carry one carry-on bag (22 x 14 x 9 inches, including wheels/handles) and one personal item (18 x 14 x 8 inches, under-seat) on all fares, including Basic Economy. 

American Airlines Baggage Policy

• Carry-on: All passengers are entitled to one personal item and one standard carry-on bag for free.

• Checked Bags: For domestic flights, the first checked bag fee is typically $35 (if paid online) or $40 at the airport. Fees are often waived for AAdvantage® members, credit card holders, or those traveling in premium cabins.

For International Flights

Carry-on and personal items policies are identical to domestic: one per person, equal in size and free of charge to every customer. Check-in allowance is destination dependent - frequently one bag (up to 50 lbs, 62 inches) to Europe/Caribbean; two to Premium/Business. Otherwise, all other fees are charged, first bag $0-75, second bag $100+, and Mexico/Central America restrictions are seasonal. Oversized/overweight charges replicate domestic charges($100-450). Always ensure that route-specific rules are checked through aa.com.

Food

During most aircraft journeys, American Airlines provides free snacks and non-alcoholic drinks in the Main Cabin, and buy-on-board products like sliders, trays of tapas, and Socorro Tequila on longer flights. Premium cabins exist in transatlantic routes, and they offer a multi course meal comprising of European food and fine wines. There are dozens of snack baskets that vary at different times of the day, such as fruit and granola in the morning, cookies and popcorn in the middle of the day, and chips and bars in the afternoon to make the long-time flights more comfortable.

Entertainment

The AA app offers a variety of movies, TV shows, live television, music playlists, and games to customers on its free in-flight entertainment platform through either a personal device or the seatback screens on most of its planes, American airlines. It has seasonal content updates that include blockbusters, series, and family content; Wi-Fi streaming where possible. The premium cabins have bigger HD screens, noise-cancellers, and offer select premium channels to watch movies during the flights. 

Wifi

American Airlines has Wi-Fi/internet on its domestic and much of its international flights, but only free messaging with AAdvantage members and full browsing/streaming can be purchased (10-20 dollars a device, or through passes/subscriptions). Video and work are supported by the speeds; gate-to-gate on most widebodies. Viasat/Ka-band upgrades to faster connectivity on Boeing 787s and A321s. 

Shopping during the flight

On international flights of long distance, American Airlines is providing in-flight shopping through duty-free catalogs of luxury perfumes and cosmetics, alcohol, jewelry, and branded items such as AA kits. Sales done by crew or screens where available; domestic U.S. flights do not include duty-free, but encourage onboard purchases of snacks/headphones. The programs collaborate with brands, and they redeem them through AAdvantage miles on specific products.

Policy of Choosing Seat

American Airlines permits reservation of a seat at the time of booking or through My Trips, except Basic Economy which costs an additional $20-160 to reserve a preferred/extra-legroom seat. Free access is received by the elite and credit card holders. Unbooked seats automatically allocate at check-in; families with children below 15 serve as a priority. 

Pet Policy

Pets can be transported as an under-seat (carry-on) charge of $125 domestic and $200 international or be transported as checked baggage of large breeds (200 and above). Maximum of 7 pets in a cabin; service animals free with documentation. Added to breed and 8-hour plus flights; existed beforehand. 

Special Assistance Services 

These are services designed to help them manage their lives with severe disabilities and to provide them with guidance and support. Free wheelchair, oxygen, stretcher, and mobility aid; book 48-72 hours in advance either through aa.com or by phone. The unaccompanied minors (5-14, 150 fee) and disabilities, and the nursing mothers: pre-boarding. In-flight services such as lavatory services and meal services. 

Policy of Issuance of Boarding Cards

Online distribution of boarding passes 24hours before departure through app/website, or at kiosks/airport points 6hours before. Board pass preferably mobile; international may be paper. Status/fare groups 1-9; print where device has problems. 

American Airlines Hygiene and Safety Policies

HEPA filters purify air every 2-7 minutes; masks not compulsory after 2023. Improved disinfection of high-contact surfaces, and electrostatic pre-flight disinfection. Free hand sanitizers/UV onboard; social distancing where feasible. Adherence to FAA/TSA regulations; health international declarations.
